Dear Paul

Glad to hear that you are getting things started.  I feel quite sure that you are on the right track and we will see a reduction in coal rate.  You have been kept too busy in the past with the details that some one else can do.  I am sure that you can make a good deal better use of your time in other ways.  Still it had to be xxx done and we didnt have much money to spend, but if we begin making more I want you to get others to do this sort of work.  Shall leave here about Sept 5th have had a pretty good time done a good deal of automobiling and loafing and considerable writing and am some better-in health although not well, but I think when I get back to Chicago I can finish the job.  I wish you would give your mother $100— for me and I will send it to you as soon as I get back.  Sorry she cant stay longer why cant she let Mary Fisher & Jennie attend to the flat and make a longer visit[.]  Shall try to get  out after I get back and can choose my time[.]  Hope Vogel will stop and see me when he passes through Chicago[.]

Truly

C.S.D.
