Dear Paul

I dont know why it has been so long since I wrote you except that I have been very busy.  We have not yet got a jury in the Lundin case, although this is the fifth week; it will probably take ten days more, & the trial will most likely last until Aug 1st when I will go out to Greeley.  I went to the Derby, gone from Thursday night to Monday morning stopping two days & all expenses paid we had a [live?] party & a good time.  You were right about stocks, they had a big shake out.  Of course I did not have to hustle for Margins or have any thing sold out but if I had sold some stuff xxx before & bought on the slump it would have helped[.]  Probably I shall do it the next time.  I wonder if the new chinese game "Majon" [Mahjong] or whatever it is has struck xxx Greeley.  I havent learned to play it but people seem to be going nutty over it.  If you think the kids would care for it I could learn to play[.]  I will send it to them.  I am hoping you get a freight reduction soon & that you may be able to make

better earnings.  Would not cut prices until I felt sure that things were going down.  It has been cold here this spring and I judge from the paper that it hasn't been much better there[.]  I would guess from what I hear that you ought to have a good crop this fall & that beets would be higher.  Tell Baeher I was glad to get his picture & shall send him one of mine, that's what a fellow gets for sending his picture.  I would have xxx sent Joe. Woolfs book when you xxx wrote but the store where I buy them was out they have some more now & I will send one[.]  Will try to write oftener in the future—
