Dear Paul

I am writing this letter on the return from the East.  I had a fine reception at Dartmouth[.]  The place was jammed and the boys were enthusiastic.  I saw a good many who knew you.  Amongst them was Prof. Hopkins who was at the lecture[.]  Shall be at home in the morning.  Received your letter about the engineer calling on you while I was in N.Y.  I came over with to Philadelphia with one of Dohertys men.  He told me they had just heard about it  and received a reply that they were waiting for you.  I may [hear ?] when I get back[.]

Love to all
