Sunday Dec 8th

Dear Paul

I mailed you a letter just before I received yours of Jan Dec 24th .  Sorry your expenses are so high.  I feel as if I ought to be back helping out but will now stay until about March 18th unless it seems as if I should go[.]  Fred sold his house as I suppose you know and now has 6 or 8 thousand dollars on hand and what looks like a pretty good job with a friend of his, so you do not need to send him any more money[.]  I see that they are offering [subscription ?] rights on Seaboard.  I dont think you should take any, you already have too much.  Then I am sure that Dillon Reed is a wolf[.]  I see also some is offered on Pa Cent at 50.  I presume that should be [?].  Sturgess will no doubt take it up for us.  All the last week stocks seem to have been going up.  I dont know how much it has done for you but probably something.  I hope there will be no more slump, but I am worrying about the big load you are under and feel sure you will be obliged to make some sacrafices to get out, and you ought to watch every chance to get money and buy nothing.  I feel as if you ought to get all your Colorado holdings into cash if possible.  I dont like those [?] [?] any how, if any thing happens they will be N.Y.  I would get every thing together that I could especially those.  You are too much [spread?] out.  You cant do the impossible but I feel you are too optimistic.  Any how try your best to Marshall your stuff.
I ought to write about something else.  The climate is fine here now and it is a beautiful xxx spot.  Am going over xxx to Monte Carlo in a few days but probably wont gamble.  It is too tame after Wall St.  I am satisfied you ought to get out of your job, but you cant do it now, because I suppose you need all the money you can get, but it is a shame to fool away your time

on that job.  When I get back I will have something to suggest that I think will be worth while.  I will be glad to get back but am very well satisfied here[.]
