William McAdoo

William McAdoo (1853 - 1930) was the Chief magistrate in New York City. McAdoo made the ruling and wrote the opinion under which Benjamin Gitlow and James Larkin were "held for the action of the Grand Jury." McAdoo found Gitlow and Larkin to be "positively dangerous men." McAdoo's ruling was the important initial step leading to their conviction, sentencing and incarceration at Sing Sing prison.
