General Henry Clay Merriam

Brigadier General Henry Clay Merriam (1837 - 1912) led the military intervention to restore order in the Coeur d' Alenes area in 1899. The military intervention and other aspects of martial law, including the imprisonment of many miners in bullpens, led to the revenge assassination of the former governor of Idaho Frank Steunenberg in 1905.
