Maynard Mayo Metcalf (1868 - 1940)

Maynard Metcalf, a zoologist from John Hopkins University, was the only scientific expert allowed to testify during the trial. Metcalf was a favorable defense witness because he was an established scientist and a religious man. He exemplified the defense's contention that science and religion could co-exist in their respective realms. From the
