The Pullman Residence, Chicago c. 1900

Pullman commissioned John M. Dunphy to build this mansion at 1729 S. Prairie Ave. Completed in 1876 the three-story greystone mansion was valued between $350,000 and $500,000. The mansion had a large theater, bowling alley, conservatory and a billiard room. It was heavily guarded during the 1894 strike. Mrs. Pullman followed her late husband's will and had the mansion had demolished in 1922. LC-D4-12552, Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division.
