Governor Len Small

On November 30, 1922, Illinois Republican Governor Len Small granted executive clemency to William Bross Lloyd and other communists convicted in a trial in Chicago in 1920. Clarence Darrow defended the men during the trial and also on appeal where their conviction was upheld in People v. Lloyd, 136 N.E. 505 (Ill. 1922).
