Clarence Darrow to Paul Darrow, October 27, 1911
Darrow is referring to an action by the California-Calaveras Mining Company against John A. Walls and others involving a dispute in California over a $100,000 promissory note. Darrow and several other attorneys represented the corporation. His reference to Jarmouth is to Jarmuth one of the defendants. Later Darrow also represented the corporation during an appeal before the Supreme Court of California in the case of California-Calaveras Mining Co. v. Walls, 170 Cal. 285 (1915). His reference to fighting the judge is about the McNamara trial which began on October 11, 1911.

Dear Paul
Yesterday I got a telegram saying that we won the California Calaveras? case. So that means we cancel the mortgage of $100000, getting the property clear & get a judgment against Yarmouth for as much more[.] I will get a fee sometime of not less than $5000? besides what the interest is worth. Nothing new here except fighting the judge.
