D. C. Stephenson to Clarence Darrow, May 20, 1930
Image provided by the Indiana State Library. The reference to Evans is to Hiram Wesley Evans (1881 - 1966) Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan from 1922 until 1939. Stephenson claimed he was framed by Evans for the murder of Madge Oberholtzer.

Mr. Clarence Darrow, Atty
1537 East 60th Street
Chicago, Illinois
Rec yours of May 13th.
My dear Mr. Darrow:
I shall not do anything to disturb plans. But I have been in prison too long merely to satisfy the hate of the criminal faction of the Klan and the unconvicted felons who are affiliated with Evans for financial gain.
I shall not enter into any arrangement with othef lawyers until something is decided in the matter of your taking up my legal fight.
Yours truly,
D. C. Stephenson
