The reference to Evans is to Hiram Wesley Evans (1881 - 1966) Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan from 1922 until 1939. Stephenson claimed he was framed by Evans for the murder of Madge Oberholtzer.

Did you receive a letter from Mr. L.G. Julian of Evansville, written by me to him under date of May 18th?

P.S. Consternation prevails in the ranks of the criminal faction of the Klan, and among the organized crooks who are affiliate with Evans in Indiana, as a result of your connection with my legal fight. That is good.
