Dear Irving:

I have finished reading CLARENCE DARROW FOR THE DEFENSE. It has given me a better understanding of what Father did between 1907 and 1928 when I was in Colorado. Much of the information I have I got through the newspapers. Only rarely did Father go into details about things he had done. I particularly enjoyed the chapters "Who Will Prosecute the Prosecution" and "This Is War", Chapters 7 and 8. You have given a very good picture of him.

I am sorry I did not have a chance to go over the manuscript before it was published. There are many errors in facts and conclusions which disturbs the family and his friends although they do not seriously affect the story. Because of the errors that I recognize I am uncertain of the correctness of the parts I do not know about. I am sorry you put in so much "gossip" although I know you will sell more as a result of an appeal of this kind.

I saw Fay Lewis a couple of weeks ago. He had read much of the book and while he said no specific comment, my impression is that he found more errors that I because he knew Father better between 1907 and 1928 than I did.
